Raise $18,000 Feed 900

Our Story

A catalyst for “outrunning hunger” in the Lakes Region of Southeast Michigan.
Benefiting Hospitality House of Commerce and Open Door Outreach Center of Waterford food pantries

In 2011 we launched Outrun Hunger (a 5k race for charity) to raise money to feed 100 families during the holiday season. 100% of the race registrations/donations (excluding online transaction fee's) went towards that goal. In addition, a number of local area businesses donated their time, products and/or services for the event.

2016 marked our sixth annual charity race, with the support from our community, our expectations were exceeded yet another year. In fact, it was a record year for our special race. Not only did we feed more families than ever before, we had the largest turnout of participants.

Exciting results, but our job isn't done. According to our partner organizations, approximately 1,271 familes and 3,151 individuals walked through their doors in need of food during November and December 2016... the "demand" often overwhelms the "supply."

We pray that Outrun Hunger continues to be a charitable event that is both fun for you AND meaningful for our community. We’d love to have you join us next year, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:00am. In the meantime, you can “like” us on Facebook to stay connected with the Outrun Hunger family, (facebook.com/outrunhunger).

Testimonials

Here what participants have said about previous Outrun Hunger events.

  • I’ve participated in over 100 5k races, Outrun Hunger is my very favorite, I like the music, pretty trail and food available.
  • Very appreciative to know that 100% of the proceeds go to hunger charities.
  • It’s nice to see that they ask for feedback from their racers to help improve it next year.
  • Very organized, felt very welcomed and ran on time, thank you!
  • We love the “spirit” of the volunteers and race registration was very well organized, fast and efficient.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the trail, it was one of the most beautiful trails I’ve ran on.
  • I appreciated the volunteer informing me of my race time at the mile markers.
  • Felt safe that kids ran by themselves as many people were watching.
  • We enjoyed the a variety of food, where as other 5k races offer minimal food at best.
2017 Course/Results

Great news! The Commerce Twp DDA approved use of both the East and West sides of Martin Parkway like years 2011-2015, unlike last year's course (West side only, consisting of a 3-loop 5K). A new map of the 5K and 1-mile course will be posted on our website soon. Until then, know we are working on a scenic route and a good experience for our participants.
